Canis Major

June 10, 1995 -  Thirteen competitors participated in the first of a series of club competitions that would come to be known as CANIS MAJOR.  The idea for the name comes from the constellation Canis Major, which translated means, "Big Dog". It is also the title of a poem by Robert Frost that refers to the same constellation. The name is used by our club to reflect our interest in canines and as a motivational theme (like reaching for the stars). Canis Major is intended to give our club members fun, experience and a chance to claim who is the "Big Dog" of our club for the year.

Canis Major is structured as an intra-club competition, allowing club members the opportunity to compete with fellow club members and have fun with their dogs, while giving them some competitive experience they can use in future events and other competitions.

There are four divisions in which club members can participate. They are; Novice, Advanced, Intermediate and Open divisions.
Members earn Canis Major points for finishing in one of the top three places of each competition.  Awards are given to the  teams with the most Canis Major points in their respective division, while the dog & disc team with the most Canis Major points overall becomes our Champion for the season.

All of our club members agree that Canis Major is an astronomical success, giving everyone some fun during the Fall and something to enjoy and remember with their canine companions!
